HOSPITAL, KK NAGAR, CHENNAI:
The ESIC Hospital, KK Nagar, Chennai, which was initially commissioned
as 250 bedded hospital in the year 1979 was under the control
of Tamil Nadu State Government till 1991. To open a zonal Occupational
Diseases Centre in South India, this hospital was taken over and
is being run by the ESI Corporation, New Delhi with effect from
1.4.1991. In 1997, the total bed strength was increased to 330
beds out of which 50 beds were earmarked for ODC. The State Government
employees working in this hospital were allowed to continue to
work on Foreign Service terms till 30.9.1995. Presently, this
hospital is functioning as a Model Hospital with multi-specialty
treatment facility and Occupational Diseases Centre. This Hospital
is catering to referral cases from 15 ESI dispensaries in South
Chennai covering an insured population of 4,00,000. OD centre
is catering to OD referral cases from four Southern States i.e.
Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala.
This multi-specialty hospital is running with all kinds of speciality
departments. All sorts of specialties are available but for super
specialty treatment for example cardiac, cancer, nephrology. Patients
are being referred to other hospitals for super specialty treatment.
This hospital also has the facilities for Laparoscopic Surgery,
Endoscope, Audiometry and PFT testing.
Emergency facility is available round the clock in all the departments
of the hospital.
All sorts of family planning operations – tubectomy and vasectomy
are being done and condomes and Cu.‘T’ are being distributed under
family planning programme under family welfare activity.
Medicine is being given to all the OPD patients as well as those
who are discharged from the hospital after admission for 3 days
and rest of the treatment is being managed by their respective
dispensaries. Medicines are also being given to the inpatients
in all the wards including ODC and TB ward.

MANAGEMENT OF THE HOSPITAL:
This hospital is managed by the Director (Senior Administrative
Grade) with the help of the following subordinate officers:
i) Deputy Medical Superintendent
ii) Joint Director (Admn.)
iii) Deputy Director (Finance)
iv) Deputy Director (Admn.)
Along with Specialists, General Duty Medical Officers Grade-I
and Grade-II, CMO, Nursing personnel including Matron, Para-medical
including technicians and assistants in various specialties, nursing
orderly, safaikarmacharis and security services.

FACILITIES AVAILABLE IN THE HOSPITAL
NEONATAL INTENSIVE CARE UNIT:
In the department of Pediatrics, Newborn (Neonatal) Intensive
Care Unit with 12 beds having latest equipments has been recently
commissioned by the Director General.
CASUALTY:
All types of cases are being attended to in the casualty department
round the clock. Doctors are available round the clock from all
the specialties.
OPERATION THEATRE:
There are two operation theatres in the hospital. OT services
are available round the clock where all sorts of routine as well
as emergency operations are being done by different specialties
like General Surgery, Obst. & Gyn., Ortho. ENT, Eye and Dental.
BLOOD BANK:
Blood Bank is open for 24 hours. In case, need arises, arrangements
are made for supply of blood then and there. Blood is also collected
from voluntary donors and relatives of patients posted for surgery
after screening them for medical fitness. Hb, MP, MF, VDRL, HIV,
HbSAg, HCV tests are done on all blood bags before transfusion.
HIV / VCTC CLINIC:
Under the NACO project, HIV /VCTC clinic is functioning since
September 2004. HIV screening is done using ELISA technique. Spot
test is used for emergency, TB patients, pre-operative, antenatal
and symptomatic cases.
X-RAY, ECG & ULTRASOUND:
X-Ray and ECG investigations are done round the clock. There
is facility of ultrasound also.
Specialized investigations like MRI, CT Scan, ECT, TFT, Echo
and Bone Marrow etc., are done outside with the tie-up arrangement
with the approved reputed institutions.
AMUBLANCE:
Ambulance services are available in the hospital round the clock.
LAUNDRY & CSSD:
Laundry and Centralised Supply of Sterilization services are
available in the hospital round the clock.
KITCHEN:
All the diet needs of the patients of this hospital are taken
care of by the Kitchen with the help of General Branch.
